Your baby now measures 4cm. He is going to grow as much in the coming week as he has done in the previous eleven! His brain, lungs, liver and kidneys, although minute, have all formed. He can suck, swallow and even yawn! Your baby can also ‘breathe’ amniotic fluid and urinate. Now that his fingers have separated, he will soon be able to open and close his fists and grasp things in the womb. All organ systems are functioning but will keep developing and maturing in preparation for birth. He’s already busy kicking and stretching, and his movements are more fluid.
We all know that vitamins are important for health, but that doesn’t mean the more you get the better – and certainly not while you’re pregnant. Too much vitamin A and vitamin D can be harmful so don’t take supplements without checking with your doctor first.
If you’re taking a multi-vitamin supplement, check its suitability once you find out you’re pregnant. The most important vitamin supplement is folic acid so do continue taking this up to week 12.
