Pregnancy - 33

Your baby

At 33 weeks your baby’s immune system is getting stronger. When he’s born in a month or so’s time, about two-thirds of his immune system is in his tummy (well a little lower down, actually). His skin is getting thicker and much less wrinkled – and he now weighs about 4lb 2oz and is 44cm long, although by now there’s a wide variation in the size and weight of pre-term babies.

You

As a heavily pregnant mum-to-be, you need a lot of energy for a growing baby and a physically active lifestyle. But now your stomach is small (your baby has taken up much of the space it used to have), so snacking helps bridge the gap between each meal so you have a steady supply of energy.

Try the following smart snacks to help keep your going through the day:

  • Dip fruit pieces into yoghurt or mix pieces of a variety of fruits, add some cereal, and toss together in your yoghurt container
  • Tear up pitta bread and dip in salsa or hummus
  • Stash small bags of dried fruits and unsalted nuts into your handbag – in case of an emergency snack attack…
  • Try a salmon snack pack - a mini can of salmon, some crackers and relish
