Foods to avoid

Here's the good news: as your baby grows and develops so does the variety of solid food you can offer.

However, some foods are best avoided at this stage, as your baby's sensitive digestive system still isn't sufficiently developed to cope with them.

For now, steer clear of the following:

  • Salt and salty foods, including gravies and sauces
  • Blue cheese and non-pasteurised cheeses
  • Hot and spicy foods
  • Shellfish
  • Raw or undercooked eggs - be careful about offering homemade mousses and some desserts as they may contain uncooked eggs
  • Sugary drinks and snacks
  • Tea or coffee; these reduce iron absorption
