Why your baby needs more Iron
At around 7 months your baby’s need for iron is greater than at any other stage in his life.
His organs, and in particular his brain, are growing rapidly and need lots of iron to develop. At the same time the natural store of iron he got from you is dwindling. Your baby will now get all the iron he needs from his food and drink.
To ensure healthy growth and development, you must start to include iron-rich foods in his diet.
If you are not breastfeeding, a follow-on milk, such as Cow & Gate Step-Up is an excellent source of iron and is also enriched with vitamin C, which increases iron absorption.
Some other excellent sources of iron include:
- Meat, chicken, fish
- Dark green leafy vegetables
- Beans
- Eggs
- Fortified breakfast cereals like Cow & Gate Baby Balance Multigrain porridge
All of these are present in the Cow & Gate Baby Balance jars Stage 2 range. Why not try Baby Bean Feast, Red Pepper Tuna, Grandma’s Sunday Lunch or Egg Custard.
