Help your toddler learn

Decisions decisions…

Your toddler is increasingly aware of the choices around him - and, combined with his desire for greater assertiveness, you can expect him to want to take control now and again.

So enable him to make his own decisions where possible - choosing what clothes to wear or what games to play.

Encourage your little one to make use of his new coordination skills, walking in different ways - sideways, backwards, forwards, as well as running and jumping.

Be aware of your facial expressions and colourful language - your toddler learns a lot by mimicking you - and you'll be amazed what gets remembered and reproduced where and when you least expect it!

Keep up regular activities that he looks forward to such as bedtime stories or a daily walk outside. In particular, the bedtime story can play a key part in the 'settling' routine between bath-time and lights out. And, as time goes on, it's perhaps the one and only time in the day when you're genuinely together without interruptions - so make the most of it!
