Is your partner feeling left out or being jealous of your baby? If you are the main carer, your whole day is taken up by looking after your baby and your home so your partner might feel that nothing is left for him.
He might also be wondering what you are doing all day long, so it’s best to involve him straight from the start so he can understand how time-consuming looking after a newborn really is. If you breastfeed, your partner might be feeling even more left out, but there are plenty of things he can do – winding the baby, playing, reading stories, giving the baby a bath, taking the baby for a walk....
You can look after your relationship by:
- Saying a caring word or doing something for your partner
- Letting your partner know you appreciate his support
- Talk openly if things are not going well rather than snap and drop hints
- Ask for help if you feel he is not pulling his weight
- Spend some time alone with your partner – get a relation or friend to babysit.
