Twist & Shout!

Your toddler's second year contains more than its fair share of milestones. Although he may already have taken his first baby steps and spoken his first baby words, now's the time when these skills really start to develop.

Walking becomes running and jumping. Baby talk evolves into distinct words and phrases (and sometimes a running commentary). And a bedtime story becomes a daily highlight - and a vital time for you to spend together without interruptions.

There's plenty you can do to play an active role in your child's development.

Talk to your child about the world around them - what do you see? what do you hear? Go for a walk outside and discuss what you see. Sit down for a snack and read a story. Play imaginative games and ‘let’s pretend’. By interacting with your toddler in all, or any, of these ways, you are stimulating optimum brain development during a critical period of learning.

Breastfeeding is best for your baby and provides many benefits. Good maternal nutrition is important for the preparation and maintenance of breastfeeding.

Introducing partial bottle-feeding could negatively affect breastfeeding and a decision not to breastfeed is difficult to reverse. Infant Milk Formula should only be used on the advice of a health professional and the manufacturer's instructions for use should be followed carefully. Improper use of an infant milk or innappropriate foods or feeding methods may present a health hazard. The social and financial implications of using infant milks should be taken into consideration. If you choose to bottlefeed, do not allow prolonged or frequent contact of milk feeds with your baby's teeth since this increases the risk of tooth decay. Make sure your baby's teeth are cleaned after the last feed at night.
